Starting with a destination

At the start of term four we travelled to Broome. Bee was extremely reluctant to go, but rallied around upon arrival

We visited Gantheaume Point first. We were a little disappointed that the tides were not in our favour and we were unable to view any dinosaur prints. We did see some therapod prints at Crab Creek. Lots of great information to be found at The Dinosaur Coast site.

Later in the week we went to Broome Bird Observatory. We were particularly interested in the shorebirds that migrate from Broome to Siberia. The unique biodiversity of the region is fascinating.

There were lots of walks at Cable beach, family catch-ups and swimming in the pool. Unfortunately our planned trip to the crocodile park had to be cancelled as we all came down with a flu.

Next Up

The week started positively as we went to Perth to see a live recording of one of our favourite podcasts. Bee was keen to walk around the city and look at shops. The show was great, Bee enjoyed being with his brother.

Unfortunately by the time we got home I was feeling terrible. The next day I tested positive for COVID and the day after we were all out of commission.

Podcast's we listened to on our journey were: A brief history of Austria with historian Stephen Beller (croissants aren't French!) and  The Emu War (ep 111).

Bee has made a bit of a plan with his father about what he would like to learn to cook.

Week Nine

It was a busy start to the week as we prepared for our first family holiday in a decade. Between allied health appointments and packing it was already Wednesday and time to fly.

Bee was highly anxious as there were so many unknown variables with this trip. He was worried about his sleep, the flight, having safe foods, being away from home and being in a big city.

Bee navigated all of the new experiences quite well. We attended some comedy shows, ate out at a variety of restaurants and admired the architecture whilst roaming the city.

One of our key destinations was ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image). The centre has an amazing display of historical and contemporary pieces celebrating moving imagery, showcasing several pieces from Australian cinema, television and gaming.

Bee was mostly interested in the optical illusions and displays for some Australian developed games which included sketches and outlines for story development. He also took an interest in some of the prosthetic pieces on display.

This trip gave Bee an opportunity to see a glimpse of the wider world and enjoy new experiences. There were definite times where he was overwhelmed and finding it difficult to communicate his needs in that moment, but there were also times he was able to overcome some of these difficulties without our intervention.
